As this blog has covered plenty of times already, Gideon is merely covering his cynical tax grab on private buy to let investors with the smoke screen of increasing the number of owner occupiers.
From April next year, tax relief on mortgage interest is being gradually phased out for buy to let landlords – so-called clause 4. This is in addition to the 3% SDLT surcharge on second comes from April 1st this year – unless you have 15 or more investments (though this is still a maybe).
